Our Story
As two local firefighters, we quickly learned that a 24 hour shift at the fire department requires a good sense of humor...and a substantial amount of coffee.
We started roasting coffee to enjoy with our crew at the firehouse, and that's where Los Bomberos Café was born.
After countless hours of roasting and taste testing, the Hot Shot roast was perfected. This roast honors the front line firefighters known as "Hot Shots" who heroically put their lives on the line to fight active wild fires across the United States.
The Old Head roast honors the legends of the fire service who have passed down years of knowledge and experience to future generations of firefighters. Cheers to the old heads!
Our Coffee
All of our coffee is organic, fair trade certified, and sourced from farms in Peru & Ethiopia. It is important to remember that coffee is a crop, so when we run out of a particular coffee it might not be available again until the next crop year.
Our farms:
Ethiopia: "The Konga cooperative is one of several in the Yirgacheffe region––they belong to the YCFCU (Yirgacheffe Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union)––and they have 2,400 smallholder members with meticulous attention to detail when it comes to processing coffee and prepping it for export. They also choose Ethiopian heirloom coffee bean varietals and transplant them to smaller, more controlled gardens. This only adds to the delightful flavor composition among wild coffee plants."
Peru: "Finca La Esperanza is sourced from a 2.5-acre family farm in San Martin’s Soritor village. The producer, Walter Gutierrez, purchased the once-abandoned Finca La Esperanza in 2007 and transformed it into a marvelous spot for Peru organic coffee to flourish. The Finca La Esperanza coffee is grown alongside corn and cocoa, proving the previous owner wrong and showing anything is possible. Finca La Esperanza’s cup profile has only improved with the farmers’ ever-growing education and organic certification throughout the years."
